Piautes
#1
I want to take my wife out to the Piautes to ride our '04 AC TRV. An old friend of mine from the St. Louis area told me to make sure I ride the Piautes. He told me this just before he passed away a couple of years ago.
Since then, I have done a little research on the area but my main concern is WHEN TO GO and WHERE TO START once we get there.
To take my TRV there is about 2,000 miles one way. I'd also like to ride in the Black Hills of S. Dakota, maybe on the way back.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

If your talking about the Piaute trail in Central Utah, you want to go mid summer to early fall. The snow can keep the higher trails closed well into July depending on how hard the Winter was. Richfield/Marysvale area or Fillmore are probably the most popular places to stay if you want to stay in town. Endless places to camp on the mountain.

I definitely recall my old buddy mentioning the Richfield/Maryvale towns being ATV friendly. In fact it seems that he may have mentioned Richfield being a place to start.
We'll be looking for the more scenic trails. Airborne, high-flying and deep mud are no longer a requirement for us. As I understand, the Piautes offer just about anything you want. Being 70 requires that you stay away from the wildest side of life, although many of our friends tell us that just owning "one of those things" at my age is stupid. Of course they're watching Oprah and the Wheel...My response is "Atv'ing, Snowmobiling and Dunebuggying is my therapy and exercise program".
I appreciate your comments, and I guess we'll wait until mid-July to head out there
