Default Stator Problems...anyone put one on?

Did my research. sounds like Arctic Cat had some serious issues with stators between '02 and '04. magnets coming off and wires shorting out. I'm assuming i have wires shorting out... judging from the smoke and white-hot wires going into the crank case! Has anyone replaced the wires or stator? Is this a job only for the shop or has anyone else ever done this? What can i expect? A stator cost about 450.00. I only have 750 miles on this thing!
Help?

Its not to bad of a job. When I pulled the cover a couple of gears and thrust washers fell out. I looked at a parts diagram at bikebandit.com and figured out where things went.

You can get a new stator from RMstator for about $159.00,I just replaced one.best have a manual so you know where all the shims go back in place.not a hard job at all.
