Automatic or manual?
What kind of problems are your freinds having?
I have had NO problems with the 500 auto
and NO problems with our 300 manual.

I have a 1998 Cat 500, work it very hard and never had ANY problems. I don't think I have ever heard anybody else haveing any tranny problems either. I think somebody is trying to twist your thoughts.

When the 500 Auto first came out, they had a few problems with the pilot bearing for the clutch pulley. That was resolved long ago and it affected about 500 machines and AC covered them all under warranty.

yup, i've heard of one of those myself. dealer told me about it and has never seen that bike again. as for my auto cat, i replaced a jeep with it and work the hell out of it. never a problem here. and now my wife can enjoy it as well. something about the gas tank under her butt. hehe

I think Minehunter is right on the money there. I think I remember Boner saying something about it on the early 454 models, but was quickly fixed under warranty. Hopefully he'll respond, my memory isn't exactly up to par, if you know what I mean-too much other crap on my mind. Anyway, in the relatively short time AC has been making atv's, I think they've made a decent name for themselves in the reliability department. Hell, I'd venture to say they're going to give Honda a strong run for the money in that department. They're very tough machines, and should you go with a 'Cat and need advice on the incentive-as to go with the winch or the extended warrany-I'd suggest the winch any day of the week, and twice on sunday's.

Best of luck,

Mike

Over two years on the forums, old and current versions, and I've never seen anyone on here tell about any transmission or driveline problems. I remember a couple things but not much, and very few major problems.

ANDY,

I believe you have seen one cause, but forgot about it.

Remeber that guy that had to TOTALLY rebuild his AC500's manual transmission underwarranty?? It was like a $3500 Price tag for the Trans rebuild alone. I remeber it and have seen the person a few weeks ago, but don't remeber his name.
