Default 99 250 2X4 hard starting

I have a 99 250 2X4 and it is real hard to start. I have cleaned the carb. and changed the plug and still it takes it a long time to start. I'm a little worried the wife and kids will burn the starter/system up from all the constant cranking. Anyone have any ideas? I'm in south east Texas so I don't think it is the cold, but it has me stumped for sure. Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks, Tony

Check your valve clearances. The 250 and 300 seem to to need this more than the other sizes. Usually the intake is to wide. Hope this helps, TORK.
