1999 AC 300 Popping
We have a 1999 AC 300 4x4... it's recently starting "popping" when I'm driving it.
It jerks the front end just a bit and makes a loud "knock", almost like it's shifting hard except that I'm not shifting when its happening... i'm just driving straight.
We took it to the shop and they can't find anything wrong... said the bushings on the shocks need replacing but that's it.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kate

Sound's like front CV joint's are most likly the problem .

I agree you should look at your CV joints on the front as well as the wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends, shock bushings, 4x4 not engaged all the way in or out, and front differential.
Try jacking the front of the ATV up so both front tires are off the ground. Then place one hand at twelve-O clock and the other at 6 and see if the tire wiggles or makes a noise while you move it. You should have little or No play in the tire at eh hub (wheel bearings). If you lift the A-arm up and down and hear the noise look to see if it from the shock bushings OR the ball joints.
I know the shock bushings seem to wear our fairly fast due tothe weight of the machine. This can make a clunking sound when you go over bumps. They are fairly cheap (like $3 or so).
Hope this helps

Also try moving teh axle shaft around, turning the tire etc. See if you can get it to make the sound and pin point its location.
