Vibration 06 cat 700 efi
#1
Hi people ... I have a vibration coming from what seems to be the front of my 06 Arctic cat 700 fis... It has 3000 kms on the bike and the u-joints were done around 2450 kms .... the bearings are tight and all the bushing are good the only thing i can see is where the front of the drive shaft (the spline part) goes into the housing seems to be sloppy .... it is spring loaded to be pushed back towards the motor , and when it is is thats where i notice the play .. if you load it (push it in the diff direction) it seems to be fine and tight ...Are these splined pieces know to wear out ??? ...

Its your u-joint(s) again. I just replaced my u-joints on my 08 last weekend. I also had them replaced at 500 miles. My bike is still under warranty but since they went out AGAIN with only 1,000 miles on it, i decided to use another brand u-joint. I went to O'riellys auto parts and used part #392. $32.00 u.s. The brand name is precision. This particular one comes with a grease zerk and has way better seals. It also said limited lifetime warranty on the receipt. So far so good, but i only put 30 miles on it. If you do it yourself,i recommend an air chisel. Remove the "c" clips on the u joint then hit the caps of the u-joint from the inside with the chisel and they will literally pop right out. In fact, they flew across the room. Id spray them with lube first though. let us know if you need anything else. Oh just so you know, i tried car quest and they have the part but it does not come with the grease zerk.

I was hoping just to take the u-jounts out of the shaft while in the bike and see if will come out that way .......

Yes it has the splines. Yes it had the vibration and when i locked it in 4wd it quit, which led me to believe it was the u joint. So i grabbed the driveshaft and shook it and it was loose. remember this is on a different bike so we/our bikes may be set up different other than yours having a straight drivshaft.I only had to remove the front tire. I did not have to remove anything else. jack the bike up with the front and rear tires off the ground. Turn the tires till you can get an air chisel on the u joint and knock it out.(dont forget the "c" clips first and be careful as the air chisel will knock it out in about half a second and it will fly through the air,lol ) once you get one side out,you can grab the shaft and pull it out completely. No fluid will drain out. At least on mine it didnt. One you get it out you can work with it on a vise or wherever. You do not need to mark the splines as it will all line up when you put it all back in. Dont forget to check that spring,it may be wore out or could have alot of mud/dirt in there. Putting the shaft and other u joint back in is kinda easy but time consuming, take your time not to drop the caps. The bearings may fall out. I put more grease in mine to help hold them in there. Good luck. Oh, if you dont have an air chisel, you may try a screw driver or a punch or something like that with a hammer. Air chisel is nice because its fast and easy.

Dude you have been a great help ...Our driveline is the same and iam going to pull it apart to inspect the spline on the shaft going into the diff , i think that is where the problem lies .... But just in case i ordered those precision u-joints you talked about , they will be here tomorow and i am going to install them as long as everything else looks fine ... I will keep you informed and appreciate your help.... IAN
