Default 2005 Articcat 400 4x4 auto

I was looking at this machine for my gf....this is a carburated machine....it has 278 miles on it.....comes with a winch and a 5' plow....it has been in the classifieds for about 3 weeks now at least....

the guy is asking $3350, but sounds like he might bargain.....

anyone have any thoughts on this machine ? and what kind of deal this is ?

thanks

Its not a bad price considering you get a plow, winch and an atv thats practically new with only 278 miles on it. Is it automatic or the 5 speed? I believe the 05 will have diff lock which is a plus in the mud. If you can deal then deal. A little info for ya: Its a 371cc air/oil cool motor, around 25hp,pretty good machines a couple of my friends have the 05 model. They haven't had any issues yet.

hey mud....what do you think of an air/oil cooled system vs a liquid cooled? what are the benefits/negatives of each ? what do you think is better?(sorry noob question)

Personal choice really. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. i prefer liquid cooled myself. it keeps it cooler in the heat of the summer days when its being worked hard on the farm or just cooler in general. air/oil cooled engines need the movement of the atv to help keep them cool, needs air blowing on them. faster you run the cooler it gets. when air cooled engines get too warm they start loosing power. its not gonna be a whole lot but it will. ive had an air/oil cooled 300 and it ran fine all the time. Even at idle for long period of time. The 400 might even have a fan on the oil cooler which will help cool it faster also. If its for your girlfriend it will work just fine for her. Remember to wash out the radiator and or the oil cooler on either machine if you run through DEEP mud. It will get clogged then neither machine will run cool. in fact they will flat out get hot. possibly overheat.

Liquid cooling is more necessary on larger or more powerful motors, on my air cooled 350 Big bear and 450 Foreman air/oil cooled worked great. The 400 AC has the same Suzuki 376cc motor as the Kind Quad and Eiger 400. http://www.powersportsnetwork.com/en...e2=22087&go=Go

I know a guy with a 400 Eiger and it has fan assist on the oil cooler. My old 350 Big Bear had no fan on its oil cooler but it did not seem to matter much.

well we bought the artic cat for 3300....we just got done riding it around the woods out back.....one word for this machine - ridonkulious.....

with my gf on the back we ran over trees around 3" in diameter, went over big rocks, fallen trees, and just real hilly rocky terrain, and this thing was awesome.....

now i am in a pickle...b/c i was going to buy a new machine myself (with EPS though), and my buddy (who doesn't ride) is telling me i should just go buy a used similar machine to hers.....but from what i gather EPS is big for trail riding which is what were are going to be doing......

i was thinking of getting the EPS then is she gets tired we could switch machines.....but is it worth the extra $$$....i got a dealer offering my a 2009 550 grizzly EPS/FI with a winch for $7874 out the door.... i dunno....

they are great machines congrats on the cat. With low and the diff lock on(when needed) it will go almost anywhere. If your trails are rocky, rutted,or really rough and you plan on riding somewhat slow with oversize tires then a EPS would be nice, but if you ride 15-20 mph on an average with stock size tires and the trails are pretty open then a machine without EPS would be fine. Te faster you ride ,the easier it gets, even with EPS the sensor will sense how fast your driving and turn itself down or turn off in other words ,otherwise the steering will get too easy and may cause you to wreck. I ride at about 15mph on average and i run 28" tires and i dont have an issue without EPS. On a side note, i test drove the cat 550 last week,WOW,what a difference. It is definatly a nice feature, but is not a necessity. Personal choice.
