Change your oil yet? I would drain the tank to be safe.. And clean and dry your air filter, and I would check my spark plug.

Cool

I'm ASSUMING it was running when she sank, but you managed to shut it off and NOT suck water into the motor itself.?? (if you didn't....you've collapsed the rings and an upper rebuild is needed). BUT if you were lucky.....and I'm guesing it was under water for a few minutes.....

I'd do ALL of the following, but if anyone else has a better proceedure (from experience) feel free to jump in:

1. drain your oil
2. drain your fuel tank
3. drain your diffs x2
4. pull the spark plug & coil wire off
5. pull the air filter
6. pull clutch cover

THEN FOR THE ENGINE:

1. fill your crank case w/ about 2.5 qts diesel or kerosene. (I'd throw a squirt in the spark plug hole too)
2. crank over for about 30sec on the starter (won't start w/ spark plug out)
3. drain - let drip for about 1hr
4. NOW remove oil filter
5. refill crank (to specs) w/ new 4-Stroke WET CLUTCH oil & filter
6. add new plug
7. wipe out air box completely dry
8. re-oil air filter - install
9. give your cluch rollers a shot of silicone lube & make sure belt ISN'T spongy - if so REPLACE BELT & re-install cover

FOR THE DIFFS:

1. pull ALL fill/drain/level plugs (3) and let diff oil drain
2. replace all but the fill plugs
3. FILL w/diesel/kerosene to the TOP
4. slowly spin diff(s)
5. drain completely again
6. after 1hr refill to level hole w/80w90 gear oil of choice

FOR THE REST:

1. re-fill gas tank
2. check fuses -
3. BLOW DRY about every electrical connection you can find w/air hose and if possible unplug and seal with di-electric grease.
3. your gauge pod is probably fried. But if not...pull the 30amp accessory fuse and battery cables for about 5 min. Re attach/install, you may get lucky.

LASTLY: PRAY TO WHAT EVER GOD YOU BELIEVE IN...... and start it.

Let it run up to operating temp for about 10 min running the throttle a various RPMs - DON"T RIDE IT....SHUT IT OFF. Drain the oil and replace the filter AGAIN. Start it and see if it moves. IF it does ride it for another 20 miles...then drop the oil/diffs AGAIN....and refill to specs.

Again...this is what I'd do. If I'm gonna spend 8K on a machine and then......well....swamp it in a lake.....I'd want to make sure I did everything I could. - no I'm NOT passing judgement

Good luck...........

My .02¢

FYI - I've never personally sunk a quad.........my buddies '74 Scout YES.....but a quad...no. What I've listed about was pretty much exactly what we did after we fished the Scout out of the lake. It started right up, and ran for another 15 yrs.

This should probably take you a better part of a day to do it all..... and do it RIGHT.

Good luck...........

if your engine was running when you submerged it you won't necessarily need a rebuild. i submerged my 650 twice while it was running and one of those times i accidently barrell rolled it in the river and it still runs strong with great compression till this day. what i did was drain the carbs and clean the airfilter then drain oil and put keroseane in it and pull the oil filter and flush that out with keroseane and start it up and let it idle for about 30 seconds. then put it in forward and reverse to go back and fourth on it's own without touching the throttle. i had to do the keroseane trick about 3 or 4 times as it is basically a thin oil to pull the water out of everywhere and putting it in drive and reverse allows the keroseane to get into the tight places and pull it out. once you get everything clean of water then put in fresh oil and oil filter and then at that point put in plugs and an airfilter and beings you have an efi you are good to go. the only way you need to do a rebuild is if you bend a rod. EDITh i almost forgot, if you pull the rubber off of the clutch cover after you get it running you can put it in neutral and rev the motor a little bit and it will blow all the water out of the clutch.

I would agree with cupsz71 about the proceedjure for a clean flush of all fluid's and fuel tank i sank my cousin's 89' Suzuki LT4WD 250 Quadrunner in a creek , i did the same as cupsz71 descrided i also added Acetone to the fuel tank after draining the fluid's and fuel tank to drive out the water work's great for removing water fast ; and i also added a table spoon of engine oil in the cylinder for fast upper lube of top end !

Hope this help's.

actually every time i sucked water into the engine it hydro locked and i had to pull the plugs and spin it over to blow the water out of the cylinders.
