Oil Change interval and other maintenance
#1
I have both a 2007 650 H1 and 2008 Thundercat. The 650 has ~800 miles on it and the T-Cat has ~200. I bought them both used but they are in really good shape. How often should I be changing the oil. What about the air filter? What other maintenance items need to be periodically looked at? These are my first ATV's but I have had Snowmobiles for quite a while. One thing that they have in common is the drive belt and clutches. I was told by the dealer that unlike sleds where you have to change the belts every so often, you don't have to do this with these. Is this true?

I change the oil every 50 hrs like the manual states. I change the belts every 2000 miles no matter what, but I can get that far on my snowmobiles also. The belts on the ATV last longer then sleds because they have a low range option and do not have nearly the power or high RPMS as a sled motor has.

No belt worries till it slips, your front and rear diffs need fluid changed once in a while perhaps every 3 or 4 oil changes. There is a ton of info out there about your bikes and ways to mod them for power and such just have to look around a bit more!! Couple good forums for information is highlifter and arcticchat. I am a member on both those forums!!
