Default 01 250 4X4 Questions

Hi, I just picked up a nice 01 250 that has been sitting several years and have a few questions about it. After cleaning the carb it starts and runs good except it has an idle problem. After riding it, it starts hi idling and slowly idles down until it finally dies. Does that sound like the diaphram in the carb has gone bad, or does it sound like a different problem? I've checked for vac leaks and so far I haven't found any.

The next question is, the regulator has a wire burned in two. It appears to be keeping the battery charged but I'm still concerned about it. The reg sits under the right rear fender. Facing the reg it's the second wire coming from the bottom of it and appears to plug into a double wire connector. Should I get a new regulator and start from there or try tieing the wires back together?

Last question is, it needs the left rear inner cv boot replaced. I've never had to replace one so, is it a fairly simple process? Thanks in advance for any help, Jim

The only thing I can help you on is the CV boot I just did one, there easy. I when to you tube and there are many examples even a guy doing one on a AC, but no matter what brand of ATV there all done the same.

Did you clean the carb real good, here is the way to do it, its for a Mikuni Round slide but it gives you a good idea. Disassembly and Cleaning of a Mikuni Round slide Carburetor

Thanks TLC. Yep, soaked it until it looked brand new and made sure all the jets were clean and installed an inline filter at the same time. Rinsed the fuel tank also. Will an intake leak cause the same symptoms?

I'll hunt up the vids on the cv boots and watch them . Thanks again, Jim
