artic cat 700 efi running horrible
#1
i have a 2006 artic cat 700 efi that is just running horribly it will start up and run at idle alright, but when i go to rev it up it bogs right down. i hooked up my battery booster pack and the it will rev up awhole lot better with the booster pack hooked up. this leads me to believe the stator is starting to go, also the stator wire plug has melted. before i go and pay the money for a new stator does anyone have any other ideas?

yea i snipped the plug right out and tried hard wiring them right together and still ran horrible, i guess i just dont want to accept the fact that a 06 stator would blow so soon haha

yea i thought that too and bought a new battery, the only thing is i just bought a walmart battery and didnt do any research on how much amperage or cranking power the quad needed, but the problem started alittle after switching the battery

Have you checked your voltage? Did you fully charge the NEW bat before installing it?
The battery SHOULD be sitting at 12.5-13.1volts when sitting, and the 14-14.5 volts when running/charging. Just cause the BAT is new is no guarantee it's any good. The burnt stator wire may be a indication the previous BAT was bad. Depending on how BAD it's burnt the stator SHOULD BE REPLACED.
Also....have you checked the BOOT between the motor and the EFI throttle body? There's ALOT of chatter about this on other AC forums.
If it's a 2-clamp (older) version the boot will rip, thus allowing dirt/debris/water INTO the combustion chamber!! As the very least it sucks air throwing off the EFI O2 sensors causing a very bad idle and stumble under throttle.
AC has a recall on the 700 MUDPRO's, but pretty much ALL the older 700H1 EFI models including the 550's have same issue. I'm currently trying to fix my wifey's 550, but all the AC parts are backordered and I haven't had time (yet) to fix it myself with a 2" ID rad hose and new clamps.
Worth checking out.

hey thanks for the advice! i kinda jumped into the whole stator idea before even checking any of the voltage and any of that, so i think i maybe able to save my self a lot of money and headache by putting it back together and checking that out!

Ive bought walmart batteries in the past but realized they didnt last as long as actual atv batteries. The difference is that the atv battery is built to take more of a beating with the shaking, rattling, bouncing of the atv. The walmart batteries are more for lawn tractors, even though they say atv also. I also bought the GEL type battery which is supposed to last longer and start easier in cold weather. Couldnt tell you if its true yet cuz mine is just now 2yrs old.

sure enough i took a better look at the battery (didnt think that anything could be wrong because it was brand new) and come to find out one of the cells is dried out. so could just be something that happened or maybe part of the stator problem
