my 2000 auto front came from the factory locked. it will spin all 4 wheels even if one gets off the ground..on a limited slip if you raise the front end up and spin one of front wheels, the other should go the opposite way, on mine it goes the same way. Am i the only one that has this or is there other autos out there like this?

hey
i just went out and pulled the linkage pin on my 2000 auto. guess what. it has another position toward the front passed the factory 4wd. now i'm excited. tomorrow im going to try and get the thing to spin only one front wheel then move it to the NEW spot and see what happens...thanks mudcat for the info, i was thinking about going to the dealer to look under a 300 and see, but what you did was quite brilliant.....i hope it pans out. i'll post about it tomorrow.

sxr6, the 650 Kawasaki's new front differential has a wet clutch pack in it that when squeezed together, locks the front axles together. It is actuated by a hand lever below the brake lever on the left handlebar. The harder you pull, the more firmly the axles are locked. They say it works great. We'll see.

MUDCAT, what years did you do the check on? my dealer is closed tomorrow but i'm going to look into this further. i'm not sure if there is an early and late model 2000, mine has the lugnuts and i'm not sure about the rear.i'll look at the differences and see what comes up. darn i was getting excited there for a minute.

The year we looked at was 2001, and according to the fisch they were the same. Meaning the exploded view drawings, the part #s were the same too. I will be going back to the dealer later this week, hopefuly to pick up my new 01 auto. I will look again , Sat. they were real busy and customers kept coming in. It may be that just a piece or 2 is all you need to make it work, in that case you could order it. I'll keep you posted though.

You guys are getting me interested in this again. This topic came up this fall sometime, wanting to know if the 300 & 500 diff. are the same. I pulled the pin on mine, and there are only two positions on mine, not three. I also jacked up the rear wheels and one front wheel, and the fourth wheel wouldn't pull, just ever so slight pulses of power - nothing close to pulling the quad off the jacks.

Keep us posted on what you find out about the part numbers being the same.

thanks mudcat
my work schedule is bad this week, so i don't know when i'll get up to the dealer. does anyone know someone that has a 2001 300 that did the mod? maybe only on the older units. i don't know. i do know the '01 300 & 500 have the same 2w/4w shift selector on the left side and the linkage appears the same, the 400 doesn't have any of course, and i'm not sure where the thing is on the 250. i wonder if it's still a suzuki differential. gotta go back a few years and cross reference the #'s.

i don't know anyone with a kq or an ac300. from what i understand they will only lock in super-low. why i don't know, i can't see how the transmission would affect the front differential but this is the course of research i'm going to follow. perhaps there is additional linkage involved. we'll see. i hope the dealer has a kq kickin around.
my autocat does have an additional position, it's a pain in the a$$ to move it there but it does go foward. i'm also going to see what the difference is on the '00s and '01s.
