AC 700 Super Duty Diesel ATV My Experience So Far
#1
I went back to Bass Pro yesterday and looked at the Super Duty Diesel again. I am totally fascinated with this ATV for some reason but I don't know if it is a good thing or not.
They only have one in stock and won't let you test drive it so I went back home and started calling dealerships and about 50 miles away from me I found an AC dealer who had a used 2007 in stock that I could test drive. I drove out there and got on it and it started right up and sounded awesome.
I drove across their back parking lot/service area and it wasn't a huge area so I only got up to 30mph. It accelerates to 20 very quickly so at first I didn't understand why people say it is so slow, but then from 20-30 it was sluggish. On the way back across the lot I hit it hard and got to almost 35 before I had to slow down but on any other ATV around the 700 class, you could of hit 60mph easy.
Afterwards I talked to the salesman at length who told me it would only get up to about 45 but with my weight he thinks maybe 40 would be the tops. I know at 34-35mph it didn't feel like it had much left in it as far as acceleration goes.
It's meant as a workhorse though and I don't own a farm so I would never really use it for what it was meant for. I just want to trail ride, haul deer stands and deer into and out of the woods and use it around my property.
I doubt I'd ever haul anything over 300lbs with it and I'd never do any mud riding.
I think it would work for me but I'm still debating it over and over again. I wouldn't even consider it except for the price which is $6997, a savings of about 3k dollars off msrp. The reason it is so cheap is that it is a 2008 model and has been sitting on the showroom for a long time at Bass pro.
It's around the same price as the 650 H1 I'm also considering. The diesel has some great pro's like 50% better mpg over the gas version and it's first scheduled rebuild is 10,000 hours on the motor. You might as well say it will last you a lifetime.
I mean if you spent 8 hours a week riding your ATV, and there are 52 weeks in a year, that is 416 hours per year. It would take you 24 years to get to 10k hours!! Thats only if you ride it 8 hours a week and never miss a week of riding! I only would probably ride about 8 hours every 2 weeks so I could take that number and double it to 48 years before it would reach 10k hours for me.
I'm sure everything else would be replaced several times over like tires, brakes, plastics, etc but that engine would never die. Maybe that is why the diesel is so appealing to me on some level. I was one of those guys that bought my Dodge truck when they were offering the lifetime warranty and I will own it until the end of time. I'm very careful to have it serviced on schedule so the warranty will remain in effect and I even went to meineke and got lifetime brakes put on it too, lol. They gonna be mad when 30 years from now I'm still bringing it in for my free warranty work.
Anyway, at this point it's the 650h1 or the diesel but I'm having so much trouble making up my mind. The 650 will be a lot faster, has about 2 more inches of ground clearance and probably very reliable if taken care of and not abused. The diesel has a lot of torque for hauling my big butt around, is slow but the engine will last forever, and can run all week on 5 gallons of fuel.
I'm driving myself crazy debating it, so if you have any thoughts feel free to express them.
