My ac won't start and when cranking the engine and holding the gas on, the engine has a banging noise. I am getting good spark and gas. If I take the hose off between the carb and the air intake, it will start but with the gas all the way pressed, it will just barely run.

 

Does removing the air filter have the same effect as removing the hose? Mine would barely idle...was pluggage in the carb.

I'm assuming that the banging noise you're refering to is back firing
if i'm correct and it's back firing through the carburator it be the intake valve is out of spec's
if it's back firing through the exhaust the exhaust valve is out spec's !

But i agree with nmcatman try it with the air filter removed and see what happen's , if this doesn't help try removing the carb for a good cleaning , i would also suggest that you check your valves clearance to see if they're within spec's ; it's been awhile since i adjusted the valves on my old 1993 Suzuki 300 KQ 4x4 so i don't remember the spec's !

There's a site on an older post that gave the name of this site where you can download the service and repair manual free in pdf , it's a lawn and garden site ; but it doesn't cost anything for the download ,i think it called Ken's lawn and garden repair !

If you go back down and look at the old post's you should be able to find it , i have a repair manual that covers all the major brands , but i left it at my cousin's in Calhoun Ga !

Hope this help's you get your 300 4x4 going they're great running and reliable quad's when they're serviced regularly , my cousin owned a 1989 Suzuki LTF4wd Quad runner and a new 1993 LTF 300 ; i bought the 300 KQ after my cousin passed away in aug - 1999 !

I sold it to my brother november 2005 and it still run's great , well good luck with the quad !
