Default arctic cat 500 carb problem

i just recently rebuilt my carb and now itll idle fine but wont take gas it just smothers out and if i attach a hose on the vacum port and blow air in to it i can get it to run above idle does anyone know what the problem could be? thanks also while checking for vacuum leaks i discovered if i held my hand over the breather port it would run fine as long as i did that idle rev etc...

Default Arctic Cat 500 carb problem!!

Hello Geneb, I too had a somewhat similar carb problem. I found excellent help at this forum site. I took my carb completely apart and cleaned only to find out later that I had a crimped vent rubber hose problem . The hose went through my steering column and was pinched. So bottom line I had a clean carburator and the machine ran fine ever since. I have a 2003 Arctic cat 500 manual shift and it has been running fine. Hopefully you'll find your problem, but that vent hose is really important so trace it out. Tom B.

ckeck the diaphram on the top of the carb to make sure the diaphram is in the grove this will cause the motor not to rev up.

Default An Arctic Cat ATV Carb Problem solution

After sitting all summer (with regular gas) I started the ATV, it ran for 15-20 seconds then stalled. It was clearly getting no fuel but the tank had ample gas. It dawned on me that the likely problem was a float stuck in the closed position. Since rebuilt/rebuilding carbs on that model is expensive and difficult I tried, with success, the following:
1. Turned off and disconnected the fuel line.
2. Cut a new fuel line and inserted a mini-funnel at the top, put bottom on the fuel intake.
3. Put in a warm garage and filled the funnel (repeatedly) with upscale gumout.
4. Periodically drained the carb bowl below the carb
5. After about 6 cycles of the flushing the fuel started running free
6. Mixed gumout and Chevron's gas additive into fresh hi-test gas (in tank)
7. Ran gumout/chevron good gas mix for an hour - seems it was a stuck float!
All's well

Glad this combo worked for you. I for one am a believer in Techron fuel cleaner and what it can do for my old high mileage truck when it starts acting up. Usually takes about 15-20 minutes of driving and it goes to a good idle with no hesitation or hiccuping.
