ELK HUNT PLANS

It looks like to me (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that last year the elk season for a Panhandle B tag went from Oct. 10th - Nov. 3rd. I'm assuming 2001 will be roughly the same dates. I haven't found out if you can hunt deer at any time during the elk hunt. I'm also wondering if that elk tag is for "any" elk, Spike or Branch Antlered???? I'm undecided, for that kind of $ for a tag, I'd like to be able to bag a cow to make sure I bring some meat home, but I'd also like the opportunity to bring home a trophy if I see one. By looking at the map, seems like it will be one hell of a commute to get there though!!! I guess I didn't realize I was going almost to Canada!!!

Ok small problem. October is the middle of football season down here. I'm a coach/teacher. Class is no problem but football is. I can make it if I fly on a Wednesday or Thursday to Spokan and get a ride with Cowboy to Idaho. Idahocatman, I can drive up with waco4whlr if elk season is still in full swing around the first week of November or so which is after football season. I need some help if I can make this happen or not. Girlfriend/wife was cool with it. Silly me for thinking that was going to be the problem. Can you guys help me out or should I call it quits? Thanks!

Hey man, I got you covered on this end! Let me know how it works out, I'd be more than happy to pick you up at the airport in Spokane, just say the word. If it came down to it, is there any way they could get an assistant coach for a couple days? I'd really hate for you to miss this one. Anyway, let me know what day you'll be coming in if you do fly up here, like I said, I'd be more than happy to pick you up in Spokane.
Lets work this one out,

Jim,
I just did the mapquest driving directions to St. Maries. 1533 miles!!!!!! (they say 29 hours). There will probably be 3 of us counting my brother so we could split the driving up & drive straight thru. We did this once going to Calgary for the '88 Olympics. That took about 28 hours also but we spent 5-6 hours going 25 mph (black ice).
They have me going I-29 N. to I-90 W. ending up on ID-3. Is that the best route?
Seems to me when my partner drove back from Cor D'Lene, he came across Wyoming & Nebraska (can't remember the highway #).
Thanks for the dates, I'd probably plan around the "any elk" season.
