I took off my air filter and washed it out the other day, cause I figured afte 700 miles, I probably needed to. I let it dry all night and put a rag in the intake hole to keep junk out while the filter was off. I put it all back on the next day and when I took off down the road, the thing started cutting out. It was definitely a carburation problem, either not enough air or gas one. I couldn't go over 1/3 throttle without it cutting out on me. I kept it in fifth gear at 1/3 throttle for a couple miles and gradually started giving it more gas. Then, for the other couple miles to my uncles house, I just let it eat. Finally, it started getting air(I figure) and eventually after about 5 miles total, the problem went away. All I could figure was that the polyester fibers in the filter were kind of stuck together from being wet and then drying, thus preventing air to get through as easily. I bet if I had blown it out from the inside with an air hose, I never would have had a problem with it. (it was only a minor and brief problem) Anyway, the bike runs like crazy now. I can notice a difference than before, and on a very slight downhill(closer to level than really down) on pavement, I pegged the speedometer on it for the first time. Throttle response seem a hair better as well.

Does anyone have a K&N filter on their AC? I wonder if it has any real noticeable power difference. Also, is the K&N an oiled filter unlike the stocker? I thought about getting one once, but didn't really want to spend the cash for it until I heard someone say that it was worth it for the AC.

How did you clean your filter? I have a Pre-filter from Arctic Cat, can I leave it on when cleaning my filter (it's a b!tch to get on)?

You may be right, I checked it twice myself and it seemed dry at the time, although the problem went away quickly and in much less time than it would have taken to dry out if it was still wet. It had like 24 hours or so to dry. I'm fairly sure it was dry.

Robert, I just washed them both in soapy water and then rinsed both out. You can, are are recommended to wash both. Just in case, I looked in the owners manual to see for sure. It says to use soapy water and to rinse it. It worked fine, though next time I will blow it dry from the inside with an air hose.

Everyone I know or have heard from that uses the K&N product swears by it (not at it). I don't have one myself. I'll probably do it when I go to replace my air filter.
