Arctic Cat swing arm pivot - female cross threaded
#1
Hi all,
A little stupidity on my part; however, not so stupid that I think this can be fixed relatively easily, but I've cross threaded the first couple of threads on the female portion of my right swing arm pivot. The bolt is fine. I was wondering if there's a back yard trick to getting it past the first couple of threads so the bolt will grab the remaining good threads? I don't have an impact wrench, but I was thinking I might be able to put the bolt in straight, and pound the wrench with a hammer as I try and keep the bolt straight while slowly turning it, but I wanted some feedback from those of you with experience before I try it just in case that will make it worse (which obviously is the last thing I want to do). I know one option is to get a tap to clean up the first couple of threads, so in the event I end up having to do that, does anybody know what size tap and what thread pitch I'll need for a 2006 Arctic Cat 250 2x4 pivot's female threads? I have the service manual, but I couldn't find the size..
Thanks.

Does anybody at least know the size and pitch of the pivot arm bolt/female mate so I can try and locate a tap to clean up the first couple of threads? Again, 2006 250 2x4 Utility.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Is there no way to just edit one's own post? If so, I didn't see it...
Anyway, an update:
1. The threads aren't as bad as I thought having now had a chance to see them in the daylight. Only the first portion of the first thread is messed up a little. Just enough to prevent me from properly aligning the bolt.
2. While I can find NOTHING on the pivot bolt specifications, it appears to be an M30. The pitch is a guess on my part, but the course thread for this size bolt is 3.0, and fine is 2.0. This most definitely looks more like a fine thread than course, so I'm going with 2.0. Just in case anybody else every wants to know.
3. Barring somebody with a backyard trick up their sleeve, it appears I need an internal thread cleaner/restore tool, or perhaps a thread file for external/internal threads. A tap would seem like a good choice (assuming I could even find a 30mm tap), but there's no guarantee I'll get it started correctly anyway......right? (somebody correct me if I'm wrong)
[now I can edit?....must have something to do with logging out and back in preventing me... confused...but honestly, I wasn't trying to run up my post count! An edit option wasn't there before!]
