2008 Artic Cat 500 TRV

The digital display is dead, although the backlight does work. Initially the display would go out, during a hard right turn leaving only the high temp indicator on, then would all come back to normal after returning to center from the hard right turn. But, now it is completely dead.
I took apart the covers and exposed the harness from the display and found the purple wire frayed through, so I soldered it together but it did not change anything.
Machine starts and runs fine.
One more data point: before the display went permanently dead, the battery would drain after a day in the garage. Now it stays charged.

Seems to me that you already have it diagnosed...a short to ground that caused a capacitor or transistor in the speedometer head to burn out. I've seen several of these used on ebay and they are not very expensive unless you try to buy a new one from Arctic Cat!
