AC 400 4x4 - 2x4 option???
#1
I am considering an Arctic Cat 400 4x4. Does anybody know if you can get the 2x4 conversion kit - similar to the 300 4x4, (my dealer mentioned you couldn't and I wanted to verify it with you folks)? Also, does anybody know the top speed of the AC 400 4x4? Plus any personal reviews of this machine would be great.
Thanks.

I believe the tranny is different on the other machines allowing for 2 or 4 wheel drive operation with a flip of a lever. as far as top end goes according to my speedometer its around 54 mph give or take. I'm sure the speedo isnt very accurate, but in the general ballpark. As far as the 400 goes I can't complain. I've only had this one since last nov. Some of the other posts mention lack of power compared to the 500, but for my purposes the 400 is fine. I use mine mostly for getting to hunting areas, playing in the mud etc.. Do I miss not being able to shift into 2 wheel drive? NO. The 400 is easy to steer. My last machine only had 2wheel drive and I found its limitations real quick.

t02ks is right on. We have a 500 manual and a 400. I love both. The 2wd thing is a non issue for us. You don't notice the steering at all. I made the comment that it is down on power to the 500 but let me clarify that. Yes it is down on power to the 500 but it is no big deal. It works VERY well. I have yet to find something it can't do that the 500 can. It is a very smooth riding atv. The arctic cat web site says the engine block is the same one on the 500(just in a different color) and that is just a good all around engine for everything. I have gotten our 400 to around 52 mph on the speedo and the 500 runns about the same. The 500 beats it in a drag race but not buy a whole lot. I have ZERO complaints with either of our quads. I don't know about the optional shifter for 2wd. I believe on another post someone said they have a different diff in the front. go to my home page and check out some pictures(the 500 has the winch)
