Ok I ran up the rpm's and got 13.6-13.8volts at battery.

 

Still stumped on it. Don't think its in the charging system. I'm gonna pick up another spark plug b/c it my be fouled but seriously doubt it. Any other suggestions??

 

Ok you didnt say which model 400 you have auto or manual shift... does it have an left handlebar lever switch? if it does it could be sticking making the ignition system think the atv in park or rev. an got ignition in limp mode...Just check there an get back here with us with all the atv I.D.s

 

Also if it an auto model is the belt lite on?

 

It's a 2000 model manual 400 4x4(always 4x4) shaft driven. Not sure what you mean by the left handle bar lever switch. Left handle bar has brake lever / run / hi-low beams/ start button and that's it.

 

If brake switch is engaged the atv ignition system thinks the brakes are on an puts ignition in limp mode, sounds like an rev limiter.,wiggle lever or switch to see if runs better or check to see if brake light is staying on
