noisey engine
Hello all! I'm new to this site, just signed up.I've got a question that I'm sure somebody out there has an answer for.I've got a 2003 Artic Cat 4x4 with a 492 engine. The engine family number is 33AXX492AA .The question I have is about a knocking noise coming from the rt side. I've been told that because the piston has such a short skirt that it rocks in the cylinder. The quad doesn't have a bunch of miles so I don't think it's worn that bad. Any opinions or suggestions? Thanks

well i know in that year there was a bolt in the belt housing that was coming loose and would create a knock or loud noise. Not sure if it was heard mostly on the left or the right side but id assume where the belt is(if its automatic). I remember it being an easy fix. thats all ive got for ya.
i had a 2002 model 500,same as yours, and it was bullet proof. sold it with 5,500 miles on it. it was a manual shift though.

Mine makes a noise also its a 09 550 750 miles. It had me wondering one day,it sounded like a bering but I thouhgt not.Now Im leaning towards a clutch noise.I dont know what it is,sounds like a knock. You can hear it loudly while ideling and under load when you first take off.I'm thinking there is nothing wrong with it,but wish I knew what it was.Strange.
