I was just putting on some shock spacers and i decided to take one the rears to the local autoparts store and do some investigating. I found the Monroe Sensa-trac shock #58624 is just about identical in size, length, travel and just about everything else I could measure. It has an external spring that says 45#. Don't know if that is the psi rating or what. The clerk didn't know either. The cost is $113.00. If it would work, thats alot cheaper than what the dealers want for ATV shocks.

Now for the spacers. I found on the road while traveling from one job site to another a piece of that yellow high pressure natural gas pipe. I picked it thinking this just might work. Let me tell you it's a perfect fit over the spring sleeve thats on the shock already. I made 1/2 inch spacers for the rear. They ought to do nicely this year if I get my Bear or Elk. I also found a great way to recompress the spring over the shock. Extend the shock to full length, place the spring over the shock. Jack up the ATV frame until the rear tire is about 3 inches off the ground. Place the hitch mount into the sping of the shock and lower the ATV. It compresses the spring and the cap slips on easily. Took about 20 minutes total time to do both shocks this way. Toughest part was getting a wrench on the right rear upper shock mount.

Thanks for the shock info. I've been going to do that also. My buddy works at a part store and I get stuff real cheap. I'll have to go talk to him now and see what he will charge me.

what was that coilover shock supposed to fit anyway? ive used them in a few vehicles from time to time.

 

Sorry, but I don't have a clue as to what it was supposed to fit. I did it all using the dimension chart, and taking measurements of the various parts.
