Default 2009 rear end noise

2009 Arctic cat 550. Have a loud clicking sound in the rear end while make left turn...CV Joint? Unit has less than 900 miles on it. I have checked and refilled the rear differential, and all CV boots are in good shape.

Same thing many Polaris customers complained about. When you turn left weight shifts to the left compressing the left drive shaft and usually the right plunging joint or cv extends a little and makes a click clacking noise. On Polaris machines the internal knuckle with the ball bearings moves outward. Usually this noise happens as the channels in the plunging joint wear over time. Even had some fairly new ones do this also. Jack up the machine and turn the rear wheel back and forth to see if you have any noticeable play in the joints, plus you can have some walk behind you as you turn slowly to help identify where the noise is coming from. Plus might be a good idea to unclamp the boots to check if enough grease was applied when assembled.

As a side note...The noise seems to disappear after a few minutes of riding.

Could also be brake chatter. Cats are famous for that especially at low speed

OK, bit the bullet and pulled the left rear axle...Upper CV joint is bad. It was full of grease so not sure what was going on but it's toast.

Remember if you replace one joint on a shaft, may not be too long before the other joint starts doing the same thing. Then it ends up costing more than replacing the whole drive shaft at one time.

Anyone got a source for the Axle? 2009 Arctic Cat 550 H1. All I can find it the locking type for like $200 plus bucks. Do they still have the non locking type?

I though you have to buy the whole axle with both CV joints complete and could not just replace a CV joint. That was the rule on my Sportsman years ago I was told.
