This my first CAT( Manual 500) and my experience is with Hondas. After about 100-200 miles you would usually change fluids and re-set the clearance on the valve. Is that the same procedure for a CAT 500 or something else? I have the Owner's manual at another location other wise I would look it up myself. Thanks

Arctic 2001 Operators Manual says to perform initial break-in inspection after 10 hours of operation (100 miles). It recommends to basically inspect everything and to replace both the engine oil and filter. It shows the valves being a dealer maintenance inspection item. Hope this helps!

Exhaust: 0.17 - 0.22

I was wondering the same thing. The reason I went with the dealership that I bought my cat though, was because of his very low price. On the other hand he said the the valve clearence should be done at 500 miles, and I know thats way 2 long to wait. This ATV is going to last me awhile and I dont want to pay the big bucks for a 100mile tune up. When I can just do it at home with my dad and learn something at the same time. Also I went to the dealership and they cant find the 01' shop book which i want to have because the can help time over time over time.
Thanks

Haven't touched mine yet (950) miles, thinking I probably should though, the specs are also located on the heat shield plate on the side of the air box. At least on mine they are.

I noticed mine on the 500 cat after about 2000 miles. Their easy to ajust. Let the quad cool over nite pull the gas tank, pull the timing plug on the crank case and take out the spark plug, get a mirror to line up the timing mark on the crank case and the mark on the crank you see in the hole by pulling the starter rope. This puts your cam lobs down and your tappet free TDC. Pull your tappet covers, have your self a set of angled feeler gages if not bend some flat ones about 1/2" to make the angle check the gap and ajust as needed then your done... Working on them is just as much fun as riding .....have fun
