finaly got the 400 broke in. figured I'd pass my gas mileage findings along. Went for a nice 76 mile run the other day, along an old railroad bed. This was easy riding, no mud hills etc.. Mostly 4&5 gear. at the 25 mile mark i stopped for gas, took 1 gal. and that was sqeezing it in. went another 56 miles and it took 1.8 gal, again that was realy squeezing to get it in there. any way @ 25-28 mpg I can't complain. This will go down with any mudding hard riding etc. Just thought I would pass this on.

How fast were you driving. My 400 will only go 65 maybe 70 miles on a tank. But there is a fair amount of high speed runs during the trip 40-50mph for 30 minutes. I have 1400 miles on mine now , it maybe time to check the sparkplug.

Cheers Jim

I probably averaged about 35 mph. I'm sure if I would have run it 45+ the mileage would have suffered somewhat.

Those numbers sound real close to what I get on my 01 400. You are right on about the mud milage being down. Try 23 miles of solid mud and goo before it needed reserve. Riding like we did today was only for 25 miles it sucked down just over a gallon. Lots of slow riding and some long blasts at 40+ mph. Heat is getting bad down here so I'm switching to the CR8E plug this week. Keep ya posted if anything changes.

My first ride was 24 miles and it was mostly good trails 3rd through 5th gears. There were a few places that I had to slow down to first or second and crawl up due to rocks. (didn't want to put any scratches on it on the first ride). I only used aout 1/4 of a tank a about a gallon of fuel.
