I have a simple question. To install new rivets for the fenders do you need a special plastic rivet gun or will a normal one do. The dealer said that i needed to buy the special one. Is he telling me the truth or blowing smoke up my a$$?

Ya you do need a Plastic Rivet Setter for 3/16" to 1/4" plastic rivets. I Just got one the other day $24. Before that I just used 2 pliers one to hold and one to pull but it's much much EZer with the rivet setter.

I was able to use my std rivet gun, the only problem is after the rivet pops I had to take the gun apert to remove the shaft from the rivet that is left behind.

I had the same problem as JKB. I tried drilling out one of the heads but still didn't work. My dealer let me borrow theirs for a day. That's why I bought AC --- SERVICE.

Like Scotto said, you can put them in without the rivet tool. It's not too difficult after you do a couple. I just had to replace all 4 on my mudflap. After inserting the rivet "start the spreaders" by slightly bending them out on the underside. This well help you to get all 3 plastic spreaders where you want them, which is on the underside of plastic that your attaching to. A rivet tool would be a little easier but after a little practice it's not to tough to do it without one. Unless you go through a LOT of rivets.
