Has Anyone Seen the New 2002 Cats? (In Person)
#11
I talked to a dealer who claims to have a 500 auto with IRS and he told me that it leans when you get on it and leans more than the average machine when cornering. This is understandable considering there is no sway bar out back. He also said the overall ride was very plush but would take some getting used to.
But there are a few things I noticed that maybe some of you more experienced Cat owners could answer for me. While looking in the brochure, I see that the 400 machines are listed as having a 371cc motor. Then I look to the new 375 and notice that it has a 376cc motor. Why would Arctic Cat put a smaller displacement engine in a "claimed" larger machine? Sure it's only 5 cc's, but it just seemed odd they would do this. Also, I read a post about how a machine on page 20 looked like a 500 with 375 decals on it.

The 371cc motor was designed before the 500 model came out, when there was a 454, but after the 280cc 300 models came out. So that placed it perfectly between each model.
Instead of saying the 371 was now a 375 model and claiming the 376 as a 400, I believe they wanted to keep the 400 name with the 371 motor since it was closer to the 500 (same block) and keep the 376cc closer to the other air cooled bikes(which are smaller). Thats my theroy anyway.
About my claims that the 375 auto was a 500 auto with 375 stickers, I was told I was wrong, that the 375 does infact have a HUGE oil cooler that is the size of a 500's radiator.

BONER,
thanks for the clarification. I haven't kept up with the stats on the Arctic Cats like I used to and there have been alot of changes since. I currently have a Polaris SP500 and a Scrambler 90 I bought this past weekend for the kids. I hope to add a couple more machines to my arsenal in the near future and one could very possibly be a cat. I feel they have a great utility machine and the ergonomics are close to that of a Honda. I've seen them in action and I am impressed with the ability of the machines.

Does anyone know the price of these new IRS Cats? I know in MN the prices for Arctic Cat seem to be less than in other areas of the country. Like here in MN a place sells brand new AC 500 manual for 5300. I know thats a good deal thats why I am looking at the Cat. So if anyone knows what the new Cats are going for in your area let me know. Thanks.

Hey RIPS, that sounds like a good price to me. I just bought mine a month ago and paid $5279. Had to drive around 150 miles to get it that cheap cause the local dealers wanted anywhere from 420 to 800 dollars more. Well it was worth a little extra diesel in the truck. I would have been willing to pay around 100-150 more to buy it from my local dealer just to have a little better rapport with them since that is where I will take it for any warranty work.(Sure Hope I don't need them though)KNOCK ON WOOD

Bought it at Ron Johnson's Quality Equipment in Elgin. Since you'll have some land up that way do know this guy. He also sells Mahindra tractors there. The closest dealers would be a toss up between Seguin or Dewinnie's equipment in Helotes or northwest SA off of Bandera rd. Since I know the owner somewhat at Dewinnie's , liked the people that was working thier kinda, work in San Antonio and it's on my way out to my parents house I'm sure I will be using Dewinnie,s. They were also around $300 cheaper than Seguin. Another place that gave me a good deal was in floresville I think, said he would sale me a auto for the same price since he didn't have a manual. But I really wanted the gears. Probably alot more than you wanted to know. Oh well on my lunch hour at work.
