400i and Tires
#1
Hi gang,
I have just about completed a deal for a new 2002 400i 4x4 but I do not like the stock Dunlop tires (why did AC go to Dunlops instead of Titans anyway). I am thinking of going to Kena BearClaws all around.
The stock tires are 25x8x12 front and 25x11x12 rear.
Should I go 25x10x12 front and 25x12.5x12 (yes 12.5 is correct) rear or jump up a size to 26x9x12 front and 26x12x12 rear? I suspect I should keep a narrower tire in front to aide in ease of steering, but now that they have 2wd/4wd maybe this is not an issue? From what I have read, clearance should not be a problem.
Thanks all.

Just a thought... I know a while back one of the other fellas in this forum put some large tires on his cat (I probably wasn't an i model though) and found that they rubbed up against his shocks when the suspension was flexed. Some simple spacers fixed the problem for him. Like I said, I don't think he had an i (I don't think they were out at that time) and I can't remember the exact size of the tires. Just be aware you might need spacers depending on the size of the tire you choose.
Oh and regarding Titan... I'm not sure on this at all, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the reason AC switched to Dunlops was because Titan was going under. Again, don't hold me to that.

hey dude's I got a 400i , I put the 9x12x26 frs x 12x12x26 rears titans 589s ms , they realy look good , but they eat power a lot to , If i had it to do over I would worn out the dunlops frist , then gone with a new tire, mine cost 311tax installed , they go good , But the dunlops would have did good to I think , not tring to bad mouth any thing, just didn't make cents to me , after i sobbered up and relized what i had done, new has that effect on me , I think break in would better on the quad I have 65 mile's on it now, I think they will wear good to , JUst my thought's , you do what you want you half to pay for it , chunky

I don't think Titian's future had any role in this considering that Arctic Cat still uses Titian tires on there 250 and 300 models.
As for the tires, I would go with 26s on a 400.
About the rear tire rub. That was on a 2002 500 manual ACT model. The new i models do not have this problem. IN fact, High Lifter mounted 28x12.5 Outlaws on stock Arctic Cat wheels with out any rubbing on ther 500i.
