problem with my i model

Hey dude's , well i got a small problem with my i model , from the beging the left front shock would not adjust , I called my dealer and told him , HE said he had one also, same shock He would call his rep , let me know, He called back and we talked , I said the wrench wouldn'd stay on the notched adjustment collar , we agreaded to try apipe wrench , well the frist time it felt like the whole shock would twist off ,So i quit, called him back , he said he would fix it , I now know what is wrong the collar is alumin not steel , This is why the wrench would not hold , It simpley pulled through the soft alumin , The pipe wrench mashed the collar tight on the shock , I also think the angle the collar must climb is to great , requiring to much pull troque on the wrench , If any one else has this problem let me know , My dealer says he wiil fix it , and i belive him , Just be carfull tring to turn it hitting the radiator leaves large battle wound's , chunky

I don't dare change anything with mine now (I'm sure later though), because I'm happy with it. As time goes on, I bet I'll get the urge to see what some adjustments here and there do...

Tell us more about the aluminum part. Doesn't make sense that they would do that, on a part that would have a lot of torque applied to it.

However, I talked to my dealer, and he said the following (just his opinion though). You should compress the shock a little, apply some silicone greace to the part that has to "ride over the notches", and turn. He has adjusted a couple of the past month, and hasn't had the problem. But said it wasn't the best design for out in the woods adjustment, best left for the garage with proper tools.

I've had the best luck doing this by jacking it up and taking some of the weight off of the adjuster. Not on my AC but other models that I've had in the past.

Hey dude's , going to let my dealer set mine when he replaces them saturday , 2 notch works good , mine cane with the front on the bottom the rear on the 2 . I let the back down and went to raise the front, GOT one , never got the second, I raised the spring up with a tierod sprader no tention at all , still wouldn't move, I think the grease is a good Idea , Ill mention it to him . Im gun shy now , you should see my left hand , that radiator is sharp, 3 knuckes needed stichs, but im tuff, he he he, O O O , It hurts to type , where it at now , it leans to much , with one shock in 2 it stopped that, so Ill let him set it and Ill leave it there, I think it be alright then . welp Ill let you know, CHUNKY

Hey dude's Sorry missed the hold subject didn't i , The Dealer said the reason for the alumni is rust , I would take rust over soft , So for my dealer is great about it , say's he will fix it , Thats all I ask , But I half to agree with your dealer I can't see a wood's fix here, The wrench just pull's through the soft notch , I think they need to replace them with a steel part , and a better spanner wrench , maybe a double lock , Because the front is so steep its hard to pull. frist off machine , GOT to love it ,

I understand about the rust part, but if you look at a lot of the nuts, and washers on the i model, you'll see they are hardened brass (well, some goldish looking metal). Probably a little more expensive and a little more weight, but I bet they wouldn't get stripped or rust. Hey maybe you and I could design a stronger replacement for that and sell it as aftermarket, what do you say $$$$

Hey chris, The bolt's are just coated with rust prof clear coat , Welp , I work in a metal fab shop, I think a better wrench would work , with two locks ,are more wrap around the shock , are maybe a set of rear collars with 5 adj instead of 3 , It wouldn't cause as steep a angle to climb . Ill give it more thought? smoke, smoke , I smell smoke , got to go now, chunky ,

At least Arctic Cat gives you a spanner wrench for those preloads. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] Yamaha makes you buy them separtely.

You guys are no the only ones to have this problem, High Lifter's front preload collar broke there first day of having it. Allen went to adjust it and it just shattered.

The brassish coloring is the zinc coating. Zinc is what makes brass nonrusting (is that a word?), but it also makes it softer too. If they zinc coated the adjuster I bet it would not last long at all and would easily be scratched off. I think they should come with some kind of plastic bushing between the shock and the collar (so they don't rub each other). Then make a collar with 5 shorter preloads that is made from a stronger material.
