A while back someone posted a message about how to lock a pre-2002 front diff on an AC500.(Probably 1 year ago) I remember seeing the step-by-step pics on the web. Probably on www.Atvmasters.com. By someone who goes by the name of "NiteOwl".
I went back to www.atvmasters.com but all the links seem to be broken.
I might get my hands on a spare AC500 front diff and would like to try NiteOwl's technique on locking it. Does anyone recall seeing those pics? I think Boner mentioned something about it a while back.

Niteowl, how did the performance mods turn out on your Cat? It has been a while since we have heard from you.

Here's a quick run down

Locked Front diff. -- Still running strong

Web-cam ---- BEST money I ever spent

Ported/Polished/Shaved Head --- Seemed to make a good difference

Muffler work --- Wish I had gotten a supertrapp. I see a difference in mid and top-end but really not any on the bottom. I beleive the supertrapp would have gave me more bottom end

Nite Owl,
I have a 2001 artic cat 400 4x4. I am currently trying to find a way to change it from a full time four-wheel-drive to a selectable 2 or 4 wheel drive. Then my next interest is locking the diff. Is it harder to steer the locked diff when it is in 2-wheeldrive? Is it as hard as the full time four wheel drive? And do you know of any info about changing the diff 2-4 or locking, I would appreciate it. Also for some reason I can't open your profile so could you email me your address? Here is mine: josephdonkers176@hotmail.com Thanks for any info.

I do not know for sure about the steering effort with a locked front-end in 2wd but I would think it would be easier.

As far as converting to a selectable 2wd/4wd/4wdlocked I'm working on something right now. I should be able to post info on it in a few weeks.

My email Webmaster@atvmasters.com

I would appreciate any info when you get done working on it. I think that is exactly what my quad needs to be able to keep up with those grizzly's. thanks.

Hello Niteowl,
Your e-mail address will not work for me.
Please send the locking differential mod
and you muffler mod. Also could you
provide me with the phone number of
where you had your engine work done.

Thank you for your help.
