Engine treatments
#1
I was thinking of putting a product called DuraLube in with my next oil change, and was wondering if anyone would advise against this. The engine I have, has an overhead-cam and I would really like to "coat" the moving parts up in this area, since it takes a few seconds for the oil to get up in that area anyway.
Has anyone used this product in a 4 stroke engine before?
Thanks in advance

I have had no experiance with this or any engine additive but I have done some research on the Net as I was thinking of adding something to my bike as well. All the informtion that I came up with indicates that if you use a good quality oil, and change it as recommended, the additive will do no good at all. In fact some studies show that some additives are actually harmfull. If you do a search on google you will get lots of info. I am know using Amsoil 10w40 Synthetic and changing at 600 mile intervals. All the oil manufactures will tell you that there is no benefit to the additives and API agree. There has even been some law suits over false claims.

Jim, thanks for the info.
The reason I was asking, is that I just changed the oil in my CAT, and now I hear a very faint clicking noise coming from the overhead-cam. It could have been there before, but after I do anything to my vehicles, I am a little more conscious about the sounds they produce. Is this normal? I used Arcitc Cat blend 5w30 this time, because that was all the dealer had. Maybe it's just not getting up to the overhead-cam fast enough?
Thanks

Hey Dude, just being nosey again my 01 400 had a clicking noise , the dealer said it was the auto compression release clicking dont worry about to much unless its gets louder , better yet ask your dealer , but I think he will say the same , CHUNKY BOY

Chunky you have it exactly right. The noise powercat is hearing is more than likely the compression release. When using thinner oil like the 5W30, You will hear those little noises easier.
As to oil addititves, if you have a manual transmission, it's better to stay away from them because they can cause severe clutch slippage. That leads to wear and premature repalcement.

5w30 is an excelent winter oil, even in standard quality oils it doesn't degrade to 'glue' until quite cold. Anotherwords, it'll get to your OHC fine, but it's thin enough it may allow more noise than 10w40.

I have been using 0w40 100% pure synthetic oil in my quads for about 5 years now inlcuding my trucks and I have never had a problem with it. I run it during the hot summers and cold winters. On my last quad, a 98 Zuki Quadrunner 500, it ticked too, so does my new Cat. Its the way the motor is designed I guess or its the oil or a combination or I'm totally wrong. Either way the ticking sound is normal. Just my two cents.
