I was talking to a friend of ours that has an Arctic Cat and he was saying that they have kind of locker in the front differential. Not a visco's but they do have a kind of front diff that works better than the old limited slip or even my Honda's torque sensing ( I know it doesn't sense much torque...lol) but what is it called. He didn't remember the name of it and I never heard of it. Thanks for the help

The ACs use a torque sensing differential also. Um until 02 I would rate the AC as better than the Honda dif in the Rubicon and Rancher. But the front dif in the 02 AC seems to not be near as good. I think it is about the same as the others. I sure would like to know what these people think when they make these decissions.

I think that it is just that the AC diff works better. I know when I ride with my friends that have Hondas and Yamahas I can all four wheels while they are only spinning three!!! They all have commented on how my diff works better yet they are supposed to be the same type of diff.

The interior of the AC differentials on the pre 02 models had what is known as a racheting cone type of limited slip whereas all the other brands with non locking differentials have clutches in them.

The way to invision a racheting cone is think of it as a large screw with very coarse threads. When it detects slippage it screws itself into a tighter setting. Thereby causing the slipping wheel to operate more effieciently. If that wheel happens to be in the air there is no negative torque applied to the cone so it cannot screw itself in. That is why when all four wheels are on the ground the AC will spin all 4 before the other non locking front ends.

Let the Flames begin.

The AC is in no way in the same league with the Visco-lock, but it is better than most conventional limited slips like yamaha and the older hondas have. I don't know personally how it compares to the sur-trac hondas. I think its one of the best limited slips there is, but it will give you the 3 wheeling effect if you put it in the right situation.

I personally think that ac dropped the ball on the 02s. The front dif is not near as good as the earlier models. I do think that it works slightly better than the suretrac. The main reason is because of the flexable suspension. The AC keeps all tires on the ground better than the Honda. Therefore it will keep 4 wheel traction longer than the others. But I still don't like the new differential. Why would they make a decission like this? All the other manufacturers are giving options, and making changes to improve traction, and AC goes and takes some of it away.

I think what Arctic Cat is trying to do is eventually use parts only manufactured by AC. The original differentials and such were of suzuki design and I think AC just wants to be the master of their destiny.

hey dudes , The reason ttaylor 400 works better then the other guys he rides with is its different than other ac quads it has a torque sensing front diff , only 2001 400s and back had them , they steer hard , and full time 4wheeldrive sucks , but they go better than most , I had a 2001 and i hurt some of my buddys feelings lots of times , it will pull with all 4 wheels when others wont , minehunter I like your post very much , but i know how you feel to but your post are very relible and appreicated back to the diffs only the 400s had this , check the web site on past models it tells about it , it was the reason i bought a 400 in 2000 , I wish my 2002 had one , because limited slip isnt what it should be either , mine sucks bad I am very dissappoined in it after riding the 2001 14 months , it hurts but select 2& 4 dont I like that part better , well noff said HAPPY TRAILS CHUNKY BOY
