2002 Need More Lube
#1
I was performing some routine maintenance on my 2002 500 Auto and noticed the choke lever was difficult to move. I dissabled the left lever assembly pulled the cable down and was able to shoot some airesol chain lube down the cable guide. What a huge difference. The throttle cable and speedo cable got the same treatment. Be careful, the screws holding the throttle cable are very tight so don't let the screw driver strip the heads. It doesn't hurt to oil-up the inner throttle workings either to prevent rust. Just shoot your favorite oil down each of the cables and let gravity do the work the oil will work itself down the cable over time. Don't wait for a cable failure!
Also, I read a post about someone who injected grease into the ball joints and decided to give this a try too. Get a needle point grease tip and work it behind the ball joint boots where the circlip opening is. Some people are inserting the tip through the boot which make a very small hole. Then pump as much grease into the boot with the wheel off the ground. You'll see water come out of each boot as the grease displaces it. An airesol product may be easier. The boot will swell nicely and no more worries.
This summer I will grease the "A" arms. I'm sure they could use the same treatment.
Just thought I'd share this maintenance report. Replys are always welcome.
