I have not seen anyone here with a AC400.I selling my 99 Grizzly. I really want a 99 AC500(bigger tires) I found a dealer with a new 99 AC400.What is a good price for this quad? He is asking $5100 for this machine.I'll probably still hold out for a 500 but was just curious.

If you really want the 500 I believe I would wait on it. I only gave $900 more for my 2000 model 500 than your dealer is asking for that 99 400. I've seen the '99 500's selling for around $5800 in my area so, in my opinion, $5100 would be a little high. I don't know what the suggested retail is for the 400. In reality this might be a pretty good deal, but $900 difference would not be a big enough price difference for me to drop down one model year and about 100cc.

$5100 is a good price on a 400. They list at around 5700, and my closest dealer has them for $5400. I saw one today on closeout for $5200 at another dealer. They need to make way for the 2000 models. All they have are 2000 250's and 300's. If I really wanted a bigger bike, but didn;t want to spend the extra $$$, I would look for a place that still had a 98 454. My uncle got one, and it will run with my 500 all day long. Just as fast. he payed $5350 for it with 2 miles on it. It was a leftover that never got sold. He had to get the jetting adjusted though. For some reason, it was running too rich of a mixture with stock settings. The 454 cat is a good way to save money if the option is available. It is also a 454cc compared to the 371cc's in the AC 400. It steers a lot better than my 500 as well due to the tire size 25x10-12 titan 489s. If you are set on the 500, then just wait it out. I did when I got mine, and haven't regretted that extra month of anticipation.

Thanks for the comments.I think i'm gonna wait for a 500.I need to sell my Grizzly first anyways. I have a friend in Utah has a 454 which he just loves.I should have bought that red 99 500 in August, but no I had to buy that @#!%&*# Grizzly.(I wanted an auto tranny) Ah well, Cat all the way from now on.I wanted to ride the new AC auto but decided that the mud and water i ride would be better served with a gear drive tranny.I've got my belt wet on my Grizzly twice.

Besides the belt slipping. What else was wrong with it?

Mostly little things. I got water/mud in my belt(twice) which screwed up the clutch. It has overheated(70degrees)a couple times on the trail.Headlight fell out.Front rack was cracked, though i never hauled anything on it.Rear brake absolutely sucks on these things.I have cleaned it out twice. It was hanging up so i pulled it apart only to find it full of mud.Everytime you go to put it in and out of reverse you have apply the rear brake which would then lock up.The shift linkage bent, how i do not know. Then the other day my battery was dead. When i went to pull start it the handle flew off in my hand. When i fixed that i pulled and pulled until i was about to have a coronary...no luck starting that pig.The next day,one pull and it fired right up.I don't know what made me madder.I have 227 miles on this machine.Nothing major yet, though I've taken 3 trail rides with it and had to play Magiver on two of them.Sure it is under warranty but i'm 45 minutes to the nearest dealer and if i took it in everytime i had a problem i would never get to ride the dang thing. So i fixed them myself. I ain't down on Yamahas or Grizzlies just my piece of crap.I sold my old Polaris, which i never had one problem.Wanted a Honda 450 until I rode one, lumberwagon. One thing about Polaris they are the best riding machine out there.Besides i still wanted the auto tranny. So i chose the grizz over the AC500.The Grizzly sits too high and narrow. It likes to two and three wheel too much for my taste.Live and you learn. My buddy absolutely loves his Grizzly,he can have it.
