Question for the "Cat" Owners....
#1
Hey Guys,
My father is currently shopping for a quad and he is leaning toward Arctic Cat (mainly because of the price).
He mentioned that he stopped by a local shop and they had a Brand new 400 4x4 for $4600. That seems like a good price compared to many other manufacturers.
He is mainly concerned with getting a good quad for a good value. He can deal with not having the biggest or the best. He'll mainly use it for Hunting and very light utility work (just doing little things around the house).
Just wondering how reliable the cats were (specifically this model), and if there were any known issues with them. I don't know anybody that owns one, and I have never really looked into them before. Of course, I would have no reason to since I ride Sport quads.
Thanks for any help that you can give.

I think the 400 will do just fine. I don't know much about american prices so i can't help you there. As for known problems.. i can't think of any. Arctic Cat always does a good job of udateing their quads every year and in doing so they fix any problems the previous year might have had.

Sounds like the 400 will be MORE than enough. I paid $5370 for mine in September (that's with a Warn 2500 winch) so I think that price is a steal.
They're not fast, but they're like tanks so I am sure he will be well pleased with it's durability.

Thanks Guys...that news is good to hear.
Pechmial, I see that you have a Cat 375. That is what my father said that the one he looked at was, but when I checked Cat's website I didn't see them listed so I figured it was a 400 (because I saw that it had a 370 something cc engine in it).
Sorry for the mix up....I am probably going to give him a call to see which one he was really looking at.
Thanks again for the info.

I have the 400 act, my brother has the 375. The 375 has a slightly larger engine, a sportier feel to it, and is faster. The 400 seems more solid and torquey (is that a word?). The 400 is a manual, the 375 an auto.
Either one is a good machine. We paid the same for both of them. Physically, they share dimensions in every respect.
The 375 is found on AC's web site under the 300's, for some odd reason, despite the fact that it's engine is slightly larger (376cc bs 371) than the 400's. I think the 400 is classified higher because of torque alone.

The 400 is water cooled while the 375 is an air/oil cooled quad with an auto tranny. My folks have a 2001 400 cat they love it. Steering is easy with the 8" wide tires and there is plenty of power but not the neck snapping speed that could kill older folks(sorry mom and dad). Very solid and the full time 4wd means they don't forget to shift it over before going up hills or mud. There are plenty of pics on my web site below if he wants to see one in action.
