While checking bolts on my '02 500i Auto today I noticed black soot coming from the joint where the muffler slips onto the tailpipe...The clamp for this joint seems to be too far towards the muffler..Does anyone have this on their machines? I may try to re-locate the clamp to see if this fixes the problem...I dont think it's a significant problem, just wanted some other opinions...I must also note that of approximately 40 bolts checked at least 15 needed to be snugged up...Only about 19 miles on the machine so far, but it really rums strong...25" Titan MT's on order....

My exhaust shield on the shifter side had 2 or 3 loose bolts, one or two fell out and I tightened the other ones to make sure. Now it rattles, I'll have to get some more bolts for it when I'm down south again.

Before i traded in my 400i, i noticed the same thing. If i kept the thing i was going to move the clamp forward a little. I think that you are on the right track there.

Yes, my 2002 500 Auto did that too. The engine vibes wiggle the pipe from the clamp. I slid the clamp to the end of the muffler and tightened it very tight. I think the clamp is to wimpy for the heavy gauge muffler. It's my guess this will be an ongoing problem.
