I'm on a budget...who isn't? I've posted in the buying section a while ago. I've decided on a Cat I think due to the dealer. I'm looking at the 250 and 300. What is the difference as far as engine ? Is there that much of a difference ? How much extra power does 4x4 require. I'm leaning towards a 250 2x4 with a winch.....mainly for the price. Here is the catch though...I can get the 300 4x4 with no winch for ~$500 more. What to do ?
I like the idea of a winch as I'll be by myself a lot of the time. If I get the 300 4x4 the winch puts mne out of my price range. The rig will mostly be used on our hunting property in MI. Mostly hard trails...a little rough stuff and some new trail maint, but nothing real bad. Used to haul lumber etc for blinds. Hopefully a couple dead animals too 8^)...

What are you guys seeing for prices ?

I would definitly consider the 300 4X4. A few of my reasons are 1)more power and Torque.2)with the 4x4 you won't need the winch nearly as often.3) more pulling power(4wheels are better than two)4)You can always purchase a winch at later time.(you'd have to trade to get 4wd)5) Resale value.
Good luck

For your use, go 300 no winch, on hard ground you won't have much use fot it, & the extra power, larger tire sz, & few other extras on the 300 make it a much better buy.

I would go for the 300 4x4 as well.. Also I know on the 250 that the engine is mounted toward the rear, is this the same for the 300? If not then I would definitely go for the 300 because of the center of gravity!!!

YES, the engine on the 300 is also mounted towards the rear but while you may think the center of gravity is off it really isn't, besides on the 300 4X4 you have the front diff. to help the wieght distribution!

Yes the 300 engine sits way back like the 250. You'd think that the center of gravity would be all messed up, and the front end would seem light, but I really didn't notice it. Of course I was on level ground.

I guess what I'm afraid of is getting the 4x4 and getting in somewhere real bad by myself and no winch.

I've got a price of ~$4300 for the 300 and $3800. These are otd tax/setup/everything included.

Do the 4x4 300's come with all the boot protectors ?

The 250 and 300 are the same exact machine (except for a small engine size difference less than 50cc in reality). Bartojc2000 buy a 4x4, even if its just a 250 4x4 (nothing wrong with that... Great machine) in the long run you'll save money and never regret not having it. Buying the 300 will give you better mud protection, a speedo/trip meter, and a 2/4wd shifter, all of which are options on the 2504x4.

Get the 300 4x4 and spend $20 and get a come-a-long. A com-a-long may be slow but will get you out.
