Longlake, in case you did not know, your cat has the suzuki front differential and it can be locked.

 

Thanks Copper. How do I go about locking the front diff? Is there an aftermarket kit? Does it stay locked all the time, and how does that effect steering? Most of my riding is in 4*4 anyway, low range, on old logging roads. I see you have the same bike as me, except for the larger tires which I plan to install when I can afford them. The combination of low ground clearance, long wheelbase, and no locker makes me use my winch a little more often than I'd really like.

Longlake; this is how you can easily get 4wdlock, If you put your bike in 4wd then go down to front diff & unhook the linkage at front diff lever. Now go back to selector & put it in 2wd, now go back to the diff & hook the cable back up to the diff lever. You should now have 4wd and 4wd lock. You should be able to tell by the anount of force required to steer it in lock position.

 

Thanks for your replies Copper and sxr6! I had a quick look at the bike and plan to try this mod. out when I can. Sxr6, do you mean that you take the screw out of the lever at the differential, and then reposition the lever on the splined shaft? It looks like your method leaves only 2 positions, 4wd and 4wd lock, what about 2-wheel drive?
Bahnerman, in his message (thread #188862) says that he had to cut his shifter linkage and add to it to make all 3 positions work. For sure I will block the bike and test first. I'm worried that when in the field, the shifter will end up in an "in between" position and cause differential damage. Have you guys had any problems?
The same thread #188862, posted by cat2504x4 (referred by Copper in his message) indicates that I should begin the modification process in 2wd, not 4wd. It looks like the shifter should be in 4wd first, as Sxr6 says. So I am a bit confused on that point also.
