I just got a RAM mount for my Eagle Explorer GPS. I'm debating whether to mount it on the handlebars or on the front cargo rack to the right, near the 12v outlet. It is more visible on the handlebars, but probably more susceptible to damage from tree branches and such. Also, I don't know how vibration might affect it in either location.

Does anyone with experience have a suggestion? I'll try both, but I just want to hear some input from people with experience. Thanks!

Last night I put my Garmin with the RAM mount on Z400's handlebars. Works like a charm, on my 500i I would mount it on the handlebars too because you get less water and mud way up there. On the front rack you have water splashing up over it all the time. I would mount it more to the middle on the handlebars so it won't hit the sticks and branches.

I didn't even think of the mud and crud. Shows my experience with this thing, right?

Thanks for the advice. I think that's what I'm going to do. It is also much easier to read there, up high and front and center.

I have mine mounted on the handlebars. Never had trouble with branches etc. It's clearly visible all the time and I don't have to worry about heavy items on the rack shifting and breaking the mount.

All of my questions were answered Friday. I flipped my Cat and it landed on the handlebars, on the side with the GPS. The RAM mount absorbed the impact by giving and allowing it to move out of the way. The GPS camo finish was chipped, but that was all. I rubbed the mud off, put it back in position, and off I went!---after a good 2 minute rest to see if I was hurt as badly as I felt.

That's why I bought a used GPS on ebay instead of a new one! Every now and then I make a good decision. Of course, every now and then I make a bad one, too. That's why I'm sitting here as sore as I've ever been!
