spark arrestor cleaning

I managed to get my plug out and there was a bit of carbon stuff there but it was less than a teespoon, is this all that should be in there? this is the first time ive done it and this quad is a 98 500 thats been put through mud water snow ect. i cant see any hp gains from this or is there more?

I took my plug out last year and mine is a 99 500 and wasn,t much to speak of that came out so i presume it must be runnig in good shape

At least you can get your plug out hehe. On my 98 it wont come out. Ill have to heat it.

After you remove the plug, take a stiff wire with a slight bend in it and put it in the hole and move it around. This will lossen up any cooked on carbon. After removing the wire, start the engine for a few minutes to blow the newly loosened up stuff out. Put Teflon pipe tape on the plug and you won't have problems in the future getting it out.

actually mine came out with adrill bit just small enough so as to not damage the threads then i installed a steel plug and never seize shouldn,t be a problem now.
