I changed my oil last winter with AC 5w30 and a AC oil filter. The user manual says to use 10w30 in the summer so I need to change it again. The last time I changed it, I couldn't get all of the old oil out, and I know this because the little oil level window showed the new oil getting mixed with some old oil. Is there something that I am missing? Do I need to open something else up? I basically did this....

1. Unscrew the drain plug and let the oil drain out
2. Unscrew the oil filter and wait until all of the old oil is out of the crankcase.
3. Screw the new oil filter on
4. screw the drain plug back in
5. Fill with new oil

Is there something else I should be doing to get all of the old oil out?

Thanks in advance

does the AC have a back up starter? if so give it a pull, or kick. make sure the key is off, turn it over slowly too, this will force some more oil out. where is the drain plug? if at the back run the quad up on ramps and more will come out, if it's at the front, vise versa

Also you can drain the oil when the bike is hot. Just run it for 5 minutes, then change oil.

My manual says to run 10w40 in it. I would do this especially in the summer. You should check your manual again, if not look at the oil fill plug. The small amount of oil left in after draining is not going to make that much of a difference. I also will remove the skid plate and on the bottom of the motor is a plate that the drain plug screws into. Remove this plate be sure to not lose the o-ring. Then there are phillips head screws if I remember right, remove these and the screen. Clean the screen and replace in the reverse order putting a little loctite on the phillips screws. This is the oil pump pickup screen, this procedure is covered in your manual. Be sure to do it at least one time in the first 500 or so miles. I have never found anything in the screen after the first cleaning.

Don't worry about the oil mixing together, its not going to hurt your quad.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did double-check my manual and you are right Mudcat 10w40. Although I did not see a procedure for removing the bottom section, but I will look again. My AC has 528 miles on it now.
