I understand that the 2003 has an improved engine delivering more horsepower and torque.Does anyone know what the changes are and if they can be reasonably added to a 2001 500 auto? And if they can't what other mods can I do to get more power from this dog.

Yes they can be added to any 500 Cat or Suzuki. They consist of higher compression piston, better flowing head, enhanced ignition timing and bigger carb. I would think it to cost around $1200 or so. The better way to go would be the 581 big bore kit from Four Stroke Tech, but would still have to get the carb.
