300 Cat dies in water!!!!!!!!!
#1
Is anyone having problems with there 300 cat dying in the water. My uncle has a 01 and it has done it on every water crossing. The problem still seems to be there in the 02 models because a friend of the family is have the exact same problem. If the water get any higher than 2-21/2 ft they have to be towed across. We all suspected that the problem was with the plug wire but it seems to be ok. Also we looked around and could not find any bare wires. We're kind of at a loss.
If anyone has any pointers it would be greatly appreciated.

My dad has a 300 that has experienced this same problem. I have found, on every occasion, that I have gotten water in the air intake box. There is a short rubber boot that connects the air intake tube to the air filter box which has radiator clamps to hold this boot in place. Every time his Cat has died, I have found that these clamps had worked loose and allowed water to be sucked into the bottom of the air box. I have replaced these clamps with new ones and put a small amount of rubber sealant on the boot/box/tube connections. Haven't had this problem again. Hope this helps.

Ive seen this happen with a 375, we had to go all over the wiring harness and fix a couple spots. Make sure this is not the case with you. Maybe have a better look at the harness. The plug boot may look good, but it could be arcing/grounding when its wet.
