Im looking to get an 03 AC 400i over the 500i because of the price difference, but Ive heard the 02 400i was really low on the power. Is the new 03 the same as the 02 or was it upgraded along with the 500? Any help would be appreciated.

The 02 400i used a 371cc water cooled engine. The 03 400i uses a 376cc air and oil cooled engine. They introduced this newer engine last year in the 375 model. While I don't think my 02 400 (I have the ACT) is low on power, it's not as peppy as my brother's 02 375. Was that confusing enough? Yes, the 03 400 has a better engine than the 02's did.

I have about 150miles on my 03 400i auto now and I have not had any issues with lack of power. As long as you are not planning on running huge tires power is fine. I use mine for mostly trail riding over a wide variety of terrain(hills, mud, rivers)and so far it has been a great machine.

I am also looking into the '03 400I as my utility quad. It is going to used for farm work, hunting and some pleasure. Is it powerfull enough for carying full load at trail speed and how is the quality of ride on this FIS chassis. The '03 400I will probably be my chose and I will be buying it soon, so any information will be greatly appreciated..........MJSTX

You will be able to carry a full load at trail speed. Normally we ride double with a pack of 500HOs, 660s and 700s. One thing to really consider is to replace the stock tires as soon as possible. I originally thought that this was a misleading statement but there is a night and day difference. Get a good 6-ply tire, and the ride quality will improve for the better.

I did look at the ITP and Titian 589s, the 489 XTs, Gators, and a bunch of others. The DDs won due to their relatively lightweight and fairly aggressive tread without being overly aggressive. The 26"ers were chosen in an effort to minimize speed/travel inaccuracies and driveline abuse. So far I love the DDs, plenty of bite, nice ride quality, and easier steering. Lots of people around here run the 589s and have nothing bad to say about them.

I looked at the ITP 589 as well, and the Titan 589, i dont see a difference other than a logo on the tire. Also the price difference was 40dollars per tire. The Titans will be my purchase.

I believe that ITP bought the design from Titian thus the similarities. Anything is better than the stock Duncrap. My stock tires are sitting in the garage until I decide to sell them (part of me is still wanting to get a big bore ).
