02 short shaft removal

I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to remove the short shaft on the rear of a 02 400i?I can't seem to get inside the pumpkin to remove the pin that holds the shaft in.Also do you need a special tool to get in there?Thaks for any help.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif[/img]
