Arctic Cat Sux?
#3
Exactly, i mean whats wrong with them, people say they are underpowered, ya right i pull anything with our cat and they last forever and the only bad thing is, that they are on the heavy side but if you notice they are only like 40 lbs more than honda and WAY LESS than polaris and the new 03s have more speed and power than ever before so they are pretty awsome, and for got sakes A FOOT OF GROUND CLEARENCE!!!! They have the most ground clearence than any ATV their sise. They are the only utility quad for me.

1) I certainly won't say anything bad about them. I love my cat. I didn't buy it for speed and finess, just for downright ruggedness and the ability to crawl over just about anything.
2) If you look around, I think you will be hard pressed to find any Artic Cat owner who says anything bad about ANY ATV brand. This is far more than can be said about riders of other machines (though it's not the machines fault).

Skaterkid,
I have personally never seen this "Everyone" on the trail yet...(heh heh heh) And if I do see him I want to know why he would say that Arctic Cat "sux". I would like specifics because I have an AC and I would say it is a great machine. I actually know quite a few very satisfied Arctic Cat owners, surprisingly enough.
I am glad to see that you came here to actually hear from some AC owners. I would never say that AC machines are without fault. They have their occasional problems like any product you buy. But I would say that I have no regrets. I have owned many AC sleds over the years and that is what brought me to buy the ATV.
You be the judge and don't let "everyone" talk you into or out of "anything".

Well I must say something. My Arctic Cat 500i is not holding up for me. It broke 2 rear axles, I know its caused by my tires but the reason it broke is because of the IRS, its not built heavy enough. My dads Quadrunner with the Outlaws on for over 1 year never had a lick of a problem and I was harder on it than my 500i. So the IRS is a weak point if you do serious mudding with serious mud tires.
Next the electronics in these quads are really crappy. My starter was on the fritz for a while and my friends who bought two 400i's also had starter problems. My dash flashes different lights all the time.
Power, on the '02 model power is a serious problem. Its gutless, it has no zip at all and it can't even spin stock tires in 2nd gear in water or mud! It can spin them sometimes but not when it gets a little hairy. My dads 500 did better than that but I blame the IRS on the sucked out power. More moving parts the more power you loose, so true in the 500i's case. The '03 model was upped in power but it won't touch a vinson, the IRS will still suck the power out of the new motor.
The fit and finish of the quad is sub par, things vibrate and the dash look like crap.
Weight, its heavy, 723 lbs wet weight.
OK, enough of the bad and in with the good.
It got alot of clearance, the most of any quad. The ride is so damn smooth, I love the ride of IRS. The cats are cheaper than other quads, I mean price. Uhmmm....they look pretty good, that lime green is awesome. My dealership has been very good with repairs, warranty work has been very fast, I'll let Arctic Cat keep that feathure(sp?) in their hat for now.
This is the truth from a disatisfied owner of a 500i, I'm not the only person who has problems with Arctic Cat quads, its just that no one posts about their real problems. My friends who bought 400i's and my neighbour who also bought one are all unhappy with their purchase and I helped them decide on Arctic Cat, I should of told them get a Honda.
I'm going to try and sell my quad and use that money on my next quad, a Praire 650. If you plan on getting the 500i, forget about heavy aftermarket tires, keep the stockers or get light mud tires like the Titan 589's.
Long post I know, people need to hear the truth. Almost all people will disagree with my post but that is because they don't drive it hard like me. Look at my pics and you will see.

Bertram, I would not disagree that you have had problems with your machine or that your friends have had problems. I will disagree with you in the fact that you say
<< its just that no one posts about their real problems >>
. That is what the forum is for!!!! I look at all the other forums here and the AC forum is no different. People coming together to solve problems. Whether it is rider inflicted or manufacture problems, we all need to be honest. Who is going to be so "proud" of a broken down piece of junk quad? Not me and I doubt there is many who would be.
I also would like to comment on this statement:
<< Almost all people will disagree with my post but that is because they don't drive it hard like me. >>
Come down off your high horse. There are a lot of people who ride HARD not just you!!!!! But when we break our machines we don't cry
<< its not built heavy enough >>
We fix'em and ride HARD another day!!!
I hope you don't take this personnally.

Oh.....YOU'RE the one! Common' bud.....I've been through 3 different quads this season, and so far I like the Cat the best. They're not without their problems, but all in all, no worse for maintenace than a Yammy or a Kawi.

I just get into the heat of the moment and got all pissed off at my cat, thats all. 3/4 of the people who own Arctic Cat quads don't know about these forums and many of those people do have problems. On the High Lifter forum several people have said they twisted off their axles too, I think only one other person on this forum said they twisted off an axle besides me. Either no one here twisted off an axle because they don't drive hard enough or have had some great luck or no one is going to say anything to damage the name. Its just like Honda, most of them wouldn't dare say anything because Honda is known for reliability and people have inturn seen cat for reliability, everyone says how well built they are. I'm not saying everyone does this but I'm sure some do.
