I like Valvoline but any good quality 10W40 motor oil will do. The main thing is to change it often. ATV's are used in harsh conditions(mud, dirt, dust, water ect.) all engine killing conditions so keep your oil clean.

Try the new synthetic oil that cat has out. The part number is listed in
the latest cat pride's magazine. If your dealer does not stock it yet, try a Polaris dealer for their synthetic oil.

Why not go to autozone buy mobil 1 synthetic for 4-cycle motorcycles. It's probably the same price you paid for the oil from the dealer but your're getting a 100%syn. Some of the others went with Quacker State 4x4 semi-synthetic.
Make sure and have the bike broke in real good with dino oil before switching to Syn. (400-600 miles)

When I bought mine the mechanic there told me that syn. would make the bike run cooler and shift easier. Not sure about running cooler, but the shifting is definantly easier and others have reported the same when switching from dino oil.

I don't want to start the dino/syn war but there is other options than going back to your dealer.

I tend to believe that it doesn't so much matter as to what type oil (dino vs. syn) is used but how often it's changed. Right now I tend to change my oil every 150-200 miles this might sounds extreme but it makes me feel good . The dealer (this just my opinion) wants to sell his oil (Cat or Honda or Yamaha) because there's a large profit involved. From looking at all my old engineering books, searching the web, reading articles and bouncing ideas of fellow works I can't find any logical reason for buying the much more expensive manufacture's oil.
