The 'Buggs are in

Mike,
They have plenty of clearance for what I do, They have not scrubbed at all. as a matter of fact i think 28" will fit with no problems. Your Auto should take to the nicely, in the deep mud I even use 4 Low but so far it has been unneeded.

Up next a highlifter liftkit "I want two more inches, a diamondplate skidplate", Rino-coated racks, and a HL HorsepowerKit

It may be because my 2000 500 is a manual, other than that I see no diffrence, unless my speedo is wrong,,,but I dont think that is a prob, I can hit 35 in third, 45 in 4 and about 54-55 with the bugs on as of this morning.

Mine is also a manual and so is my buddies, I have also run with auto 500's and we are about the same a whopping 45. Maybe you just got a fast one or your speedo is off. I know from years of snowmobiling the speedo could be the problem. If you checked it against somebody else, I would be really interested to know the speed. I have some "factory connections" and will certainly do some complaining. Thanks

That is kind of funny. Most everyone here with a 500 AC will say around mid 50's for top speed. I get around 55 average on my 99. Depending on the gas I put in it normally. 53-55 with cheap 87 octane, 55-58 with the good stuff. Mine also runs faster in warmer weather. Don't know about that, but it was faster by 3 mph tonight than it was 2 months ago on the same tank of gas (I haven't ridden much as you can see). The 98 454 will run with my 500 all day as well, perhaps a hair faster even.
As for the one that asked why Highlifter recommended Mud Bugs over Mudrunners. Simple. Highlifter doesnt sell Mudrunners. I would take the bugs over the Good Years as well. Good Year is a good name, but that doesn't carry as much weight in the atv market. Mud Bugs have a better tread pattern I think. I don't know how they ride in comparison with the good years though.

Hi guys, When you change the size of your tires it will afect your speedo reading. I own 2 Arctic Cat 500's ones a 1999 5 speed with 26" tires and the other is a 2000 auto with 25 " tires. The 5 speed tops out (acording to the speedo) at about 54-55 or so and the Auto I not shure yet as I only have 200 miles on and have not punched it out yet as I'm still breaking it in. I have though run it up to 45 and still had throttle to go. Im shure that the auto' faster but even at 50 with the big tires it's like riding on marbles. I shure do like the big tires tho.. I will be getting 27"ers for the 5 speed and will put the 26" tires on the auto.

I have a police friend that i will gey to hit it with the radar this weekend, people are righ the bugs do gret but area little bumpy at higher speeds, Oh I slao forgot to tell I run Gass a 107 octane...good stuff and 107 boost and have two NGK plugs in it, would that make a big diffrence?

With larger tires, wouldn't you actually be going even faster? When I changed from 31's to 38's under my truck, my speedometer lost about 13 mph. When it said I was doing 60, I was actually doing 73 mph (know from several accidental radar checks!). Course we are comparing a bored Chev 350 pumping over 350 horses, to a 500 cc with maybe 30? Maybe full throttle isn't enough to really get the 27's turning, though, you would think even at full throttle, with the larger diameter tire covering a larger area at the same engine rpm, you would actually be going faster, regardless of what the speedo says. And, a 2" overall increase in tire size, compared to a 7" increase is quite substantial as well. Who knows, just thinking to myself again.
