Well my speedo is off by about 3 MPH. Saturtday after getiing hit buy a new Ka Radar unit the top speed on the cat with the new tires was 52-53 on average. But I still think that that is not too bad for the SLOW CAT.
I spent over 5 hours on the cat this weekend and the Buggs preformed great, the only problem I had was in sand, they dig way too much. In mud they were great and they did very well on the hardpack.. So im very happy
I also got the pics posted...So check them out

Hey, nice pics! Bugs look tough! Even at 53 mph, I still think that's plenty fast for me. Nearly all of the riding I do is in 4 Low, crawling over anything and everything in the way, so I don't think I'd have any trouble with them. How did they handle at higher speeds though? I'm kind of ashamed to say it, but the fastest I've had my 'Cat is maybe 25 mph. Course, I haven't had any distance, or length to get much higher than that. Personally I have more fun crawling around difficult terrain, than cruising anyway.

Are those the Warn 55W driving lights for pick-ups? How are they as far as power draw?

Take care.

Mike

Mike,
The Warn 4X's on the quad are the 55w fog lights, I do not have them installed properly yet(I got get into teh fields befor it rains and floods again) , but I temp hooked them straight to the battery, they provide the wide angle and close up light that I needed to complement my Hi-beams, Im going to wire them through a relay so they will only be used when the hi-beams are on.
Warn says that they will only draw 4 amps per light, The Cats have a 325 amp alternator that will more than power them.

Actually the cat has a 25 amp altenator. It used to be stated like 365 or 385 watts or something like that for 99, but they rate it 25 amps in the 2000 catalog. It seems like you figured the amps drawn by dividing the wattage, say 55 in this case, by 12 (volts) for this thing. Bringing it to almost 5 amps per light. I'm only remembering this from old experiences, and nothing read so don't quote me on it. I could easily be wrong. It seems like I had figured that the old 150 watt KC's that I had on my last truck drew 12.5 amps apiece. The cat has a huge altenator as far a quads go, maybe like the second biggest only to the Traxter or something, so it should pull them fine if any quad is capable. A winch would have to draw more power than a light of that size, and winches work fine.

Thanks for the info, how are the bugs holding up so far? Hope you like them. What pressure were you running in the sand? I think you said earlier that the guys from H.L. suggested running between 8-10 psi. I was just wondering if you dropped that back down to the 3-5 range. That would give you a wider footprint, which shouldn't dig quite as bad as a tire with more pressure in the sand. Maybe the bugs are just that "mean" though, and dig through everything?.

I have yet to decide what kind, or which type of lighting I want to add to my 'Cat. I want two for the front, and either one or two wired in for reverse lights, that I can also turn on whenever I want. Cabela's has a pair of 55w halogen H-3 lights that will mount anywhere with the brackets, for around $69. Moose has a pair of 35w lights for about $35, which look like they would make good back-up lights, but still not sure. Too many choices, if you add in the Warn, KC's, etc., etc.

Andy,
You are right about the alternator,,,My bad, I feel if the cats can run a winch that pull mucho juice than they should not have that much prob with the lights, unless I run hi-beams, Warn lights and the winch,,,,that might be a prob..
Mike, yes their are many choices,,,I spent a hour a Leon Rosser "Think Jeep" looking at everything, KC, ProComp, Hella, them all, but my college roommate had a set of Warns on his jeep for 5 years, with no problems so I decided on them but they were kinda expensive. Im also planning to put 2 of the small round 55w Warns on the rear rack for backup lights, I will get them next time im in Birmingham. I am going to try to wire the lights in tonight and im going to try to Rino-coat the racks tonight of the paint comes in.
More info on the BUGGS
I spent the better part of the day in a field that the outer perimiter (appox 2.5 miles) was covered by on average a foot of gooey mud,,,,and I came out with no problems, I was so glad I did not have to get off and use the winch,,,,too many snakes!!!

I see you have your Buggs , what did you do to mount the 12" on the rear ? I used the wider rear rims off my 454 . The rear rims are 2" wider than the 2000 500

yea, I put the 12 on the factory rear rim.. It was a tight fit but gives the tire a little more height, It will do untill I can shell out for a set of Al ones

BigCat:
Glad to hear the "Bugs" are holding up so well. Also nice to hear you didn't have any run-in's with any snakes. I hate those darn things! If only I had enough money to add stuff to the 'Cat. Don't care much for being a broke college student, but I guess I can hold out for one more month, then it will all be over with. Let me know if you happen to post any pics with the back up lights, or the relay as well. Not quite sure where on the back I'd like to put a set, as I don't want them to get knocked off, or broke.

Take it easy.

Mike

Hey Cowboy,
I have relatives that live in Yelm,Wa. Where is that in relation to you? They ride ATV's and I was considering going up to Yelm in May and riding. Just thought i would let you know that. If your close by , maybe we can all get together and go riding.
Good Riding
